I got Ron Harrity’s sample pack, which had of some harmonically lush piano samples and some very intense, textural sounds from a Buchla music easel. I started off by throwing anything at wall in order to get a feel for the samples. Eventually I had two ideas with some potential; one pretty dissonant and “in your face,” and the other was more of an ambient tapeless, tape loop.
Charlemagne Lazers features Ron’s samples with some additional sounds that I supplied myself. Additional samples came from my modular setup; mostly featuring the ALM Busy Circuits Akemie’s Taikoand the Make Noise
Erbe-Verb. A Korg Minilogue also made an appearance. All of the music was written and arranged in Logic using the built-in sampler plug-in and built-in DSP plug-ins... and too much time plugging data into a piano roll. My eyes hate me so much. This track was inspired by Charlemagne Palestine’s Strumming Music.
